Angelina Jolie is set to reprise her role with the iconic horns once more.
The Hollywood star, who is 42 years old, is currently in London working on the filming of Maleficent 2, the highly anticipated sequel to her successful 2014 movie. The first movie was a huge box office success, grossing over $750 million globally, and received critical acclaim for Jolie’s performance.
Jolie is teaming up with Elle Fanning, Michelle Pfeiffer, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Ed Skrein, and Harris Dickinson for the upcoming film. The legendary actress Michelle Pfeiffer is taking on the role of Queen Ingrith, guaranteeing some intense scenes with Jolie’s Maleficent. Additionally, Oscar nominee Lesley Manville is returning as the pixie Flittle in this star-studded cast.
The second installment of the Maleficent series takes place a few years after the events of the first movie, focusing on Maleficent and Aurora joining forces to protect the realm and its inhabitants. Elle Fanning shared the news by posting a funny selfie with Angelina Jolie on set, joking that it was “bring your mom to work day.” She also posted another playful selfie where she photobombed Jolie who was wearing her unmistakable horns.
Jolie’s return to the role of a live-action Disney villainess marks her first appearance since her 2015 role in By the Sea. While on set, Jolie’s children are also involved in the filmmaking process. The set is described as family-friendly, with Jolie’s children, Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Knox and Vivienne, all busy working in a school trailer.
Since her last acting role, Jolie has kept busy with her humanitarian work and directing the film First They Killed My Father. She has also been an executive producer on projects like the Oscar-nominated animated film The Breadwinner. The movie also reunites Jolie with Elle Fanning, who played an older version of Princess Aurora, showcasing their close bond that developed during filming.
Jolie had hinted at her return to the role in September 2017 and shared her process of perfecting Maleficent’s chilling voice during a discussion at the Toronto International Film Festival. She revealed that she discovered the character’s accent while goofing around with her kids, trying out different voices until she found the perfect one that made them laugh. In the 2014 movie, her youngest daughter Vivienne made a sweet appearance as young Sleeping Beauty.
